Little-known fact
I come from a long line of entrepreneurs. For years (like 1927-1986) my family had Schumacher’s Bakery aka, Tastie Home Bakery on 65th in the Ravenna neighborhood. My mom lived in some of the homes in that area and at one time an apartment above the bakery. The bakery no longer exists but the building my grandpa owned remains with my great-grandpa’s name still above the door, W.F. Schumacher. Now this building houses the familiar Zeeks Pizza and Bruggers Begals, and I have a whole lot of memories and a huge unfortunate sweet tooth!
From very young, I was given the gene of hard work. There aren’t many slackers in my family. We all know how to work! I was raised with a good work ethic. When I was a child and we visited Grandpa at the bakery, he didn’t stop to talk. He talked while he worked, always. All of my memories included my grandpa making strudel, kneading bread, pulling cake out of the oven, weighing sweet rolls. He was never NOT working.
While the bakery was the longest and most known around Seattle, there were many other businesses in my family. I myself owned a Pottery Painting Studio and a Coffee shop.
